| Customer Reviews: Very Good Router January 1, 2010 Drewbie Goodman (FL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This wireless router offers better call quality for T-Mobile HotSpot@Home phone calls with a HotSpot@Home cell phone. The HotSpot@Home service is important if you buy special T-Mobile phone with the ability to make phone calls on T-Mobile's network through a Wi-Fi connection.
HotSpot@Home should not be confused with T-Mobile's @Home service which connects to a standard house phone. T-Mobile's @Home service will only works (at this time) if you pay a monthly subscription fee, and requires a phone that connects over a normal phone line to be able to make and receive call. HotSpot@Home connects to any HotSpot@Home enabled cell phone without paying an extra subscription fee.
However the HotSpot@Home feature has its limitations. Without a wireless router designed to work with a T-Mobile phone you are likely to get a lot of dropped calls and your battery will drain quickly. I know, I bought the special T-Mobile phones and had a "normal" wireless G router and the call reliability was terrible. And yes the battery died on my phone really quickly. Once I bought this router my phone stayed connected just about 24/7 to the wireless network and it eliminated the need for a home phone. It even works well with multiple HotSpot@Home cell phones. However we did seem to get more dropped calls when we had three or more phones connected to this particular router. If you get a "HotSpot@Home" enabled cell phone, this router will provide you with a signal no matter what T-Mobile wireless plan you have. If you don't have a very good signal in your house, this wireless router is a solution.
And if you happen to not have an unlimited plan, you can pay an extra $9.95 a month and have unlimited Wi-Fi calls. It still only cost $9.95 even if you have a family plan, so in that case it is even a better deal.
It also functions as a normal wireless router. Meaning multiple computers with wireless cards, or game systems, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device can get an internet connection and network through this router. Also the phone calls never noticeably interfered with my internet connection, web browsing, or Hulu video streaming. However if I had a "medium" grade connection 1.0MB/s or faster. If you have one of the slower high speed internet connection plans that is only 500KB/s (0.5 MB/s) or slower you may have a little trouble.

great for wi-fi calling January 15, 2009 C. N. (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
i got this because i recently got the blackberry pearl flip 8220 phone. the phone has unlimited wi-fi calling capability through t-mobile ($10/month plan).
while i had some other issues with t-mobile, i had great results with this router as it puts phone calls ahead of surfing so i don't get the dropped calls i had with an older dlink router. web browsing doesn't seem affected. i do recommend this product although i'm not that crazy about t-mobile because i had a whole host of other issues with them and the phone. but if the router works with other carriers, then go for it.
