Product Description In a volatile economy, there's one utility you can save with the aid of VOIP technology - your phone service costs. Smart and stylish, the ooma Hub and ooma Scout partner with your high-speed Internet and your existing home phones to deliver free home phone service. Your one-time purchase eliminates monthly bills for U.S. calling and delivers extremely low rates for international calls. Your one-time purchase of an award-winning ooma Hub device frees your phone service. Call anyone, at any number, anywhere in the U.S. without charge. Think how much you pay the phone company each year. Now imagine what you could do with all the money you save. Ooma is the only company in the history of the telecom industry that lets you own your dialtone. Your one-time ooma purchase eliminates monthly charges for unlimited US calling. Compared to other stand-alone VoIP providers, there are no monthly fees for US calling. Plus, the ooma system has been architected to deliver exceptional voice quality and reliability, giving you the crisp, acoustic performance of a landline, without the associated fees. A number of our customers have reported that ooma delivers "excellent voice quality," "better than landline." Easy-to-read manuals are full of colorful diagrams and simple instructions to make set-up as painless as possible. It takes the average customer less than 20 minutes to activate and install the ooma system. Using the ooma system is even easier! ooma devices have been designed to provide an intuitive out-of-box experience. Ooma can move your number from your current phone provider for a one-time fee of $39.99. To use the ooma Hub device, you need TWO things: 1. A high-speed Internet connection (cable/DSL/fiber-optic); and 2. A home phone.

dont' waste your time with this POS March 17, 2010 John C. Ehn 1. service: (what there is of it) only exisists during business hours.
2. QOS: half the time calls that came in spontaneously hung up on me.
3 Some companies could not call my house for reasons that ooma could never explain even though I had no blocks on my line
4. when I tried to get ooma to give me my number back they acted liked chimps in the monkey house. (still on going)
5. callls faded in and out whenever that managed to connect
you'd have to be CRAZY to ever use this service
Great Product Negated by Worst Customer Support Ever March 16, 2010 Bill (Phoenix, AZ) As long as you have a fast internet connection and a functioning Ooma device the call quality is very good to excellent. However, if you have any problems with configuration or the hardware goes down then you better be prepared to have a backup phone service for at least a week, and you better be prepared for many frustrating calls to Ooma support where they will continue to ask the same questions over and over after which they will assign you a ticket number and tell you somone will get back to you. They also only communicate through e-mail and chat to their support engineers in Palo Alto and claim they (a VOIP provider) have no way to forward a call to Palo Alto. Once they inform you of that they again promise a support engineer in Palo Alto would call back. Once you hang-up, the process of calling and e-mailing starts all over again because they never call back or e-mail. I would have to sum up my review by stating that I believe Ooma has the worst customer service I have ever experienced and if I had it to do over again I would go with another VOIP provider that supports a generic VOIP adapter that won't lock you into a particular service provider.
Saves money and reduces the cost of internet March 13, 2010 Jerrilyn Rasmussen (Kansas City, MO, USA) Our phone was costing us $360 a year and was going up every year even though we have only the very basic service. This product will pay for itself in less than 8 months. It works right over our internet service and only took a few minutes to install. The only downside would be if your internet went down you would lose your phone service as well but in the five years that we've had our current internet service we have never had it go down so............
Great idea, can save a lot of money in a year. March 12, 2010 Eagle J (L.A.) This is a great product but it took sending back the original unit in exchange for another. Support was only a minor help. After ten support calls they finally decided my unit was not working. (I suggested this on the third try). They could use a higher level of support techs to solve their support problems. I sent the item back to Amazon and they were very understanding and helpful. Amazon really goes the extra mile for their customers. My new unti arrived in just two days. After reinstalling, it took Ooma a good three weeks to port my number. Now after two months, it is hassle free and working great. I really like the features and am happy to have finally gotten it worked out through their advanced tech support. James
I wish I knew about ooma years ago! March 12, 2010 mao_yoshioka But I am glad I got it now. Well, actually it's been a couple of months now that I was using it. It's fantastic, call quality is better than my previous landline. I cancelled my overpriced landline and ooma over ip is my only home phone service. Setting it up was the only part where I had minor issues, one of them being our firewall. I was able to reach ooma customer service on a Saturday right away and they had us up and running within minutes. I strongly recommend this product to those who would like to go from an expensive monthly phone bill to very reasonlable or even none (for basic service).
